About Us

You are not only on the right track with your mallets, but I think you are already producing some of the best quality sticks on the market. Quality workmanship, great sound, and terrific feel. I can't wait to see what else you have up your sleeve! - Jonathan Fox, Principal Timpanist and Principal Percussionist, Singapore Symphony Orchestra

Marimba One Mallets

For many years we explored the tonal range that available mallets could evoke from our marimbas. Pursuing an ideal marimba sound, we began to construct our own mallets, testing heads and weights, yarns, wrap patterns and tension.

In conjunction with renowned Marimba One percussionists, our artisan-engineers have developed new mallets designed to evoke the maximum range, depth and beauty of a marimba.

Using a cutting edge technology developed at Marimba One, we can craft mallets that are ideally suited for keyboard percussion.

As of spring 2008, we offer three signature artist mallet lines - Katarzyna Mycka, Colin Currie, and Ivana Bilic - as well as our original Double Helix series. We invite you to explore the artists' visions that inspire their mallets!

A NEW MALLET TECHNOLOGY

Weighting the mallet

Marimba One mallets are made with a unique (patent-pending) over-molding process, utilizing the latest injection-molded polymers. By carefully layering hard and soft materials during the molding process, we are able to design mallets that are extremely consistent and that have an expanded tonal range on the marimba.

This injection molding process also permits us to insert metal weights to custom tune the heaviness of the mallet head. Weighting the mallets frees us from size constrictions - we can now build a small, heavy mallet and a small, light mallet with identical size and hardness to each other (or perhaps a large/heavy, large/light pair similarly matched).

The new wrap on yarn

The most visible innovation to our mallets is their unique two-color yarn wrap. Our patent-pending process winds two separate pieces of yarn at the same time: after one of the strands makes a revolution around the mallet head, the second strand follows with its own revolution, securing the previous strand in place. Our technique allows us to individually control the tension of each of the two strands of yarn.

By using two individual yarns, we can also wrap two types of fiber, e.g. wool and nylon.

These blends create tones and responses that are not possible using only one type of yarn.

HOW TO ORDER

We substantially discount our mallets when you order a new marimba.
