Alex Albertson
Alex Albertson is a co-founder of and educator at Maple Music Studios in Omaha, NE and Logan, IA. The studio specializes in all aspects of percussion, and is the only studio in the area offering percussion ensemble opportunities. Maple Music Studios also offers group piano, early childhood music classes, and group guitar. Alex’s percussion students have earned spots in All-State Bands and Orchestras every year since 2015, with many continuing on to earn percussion scholarships at the university level.
In addition to teaching, he is very active as a performer. Recently, this includes playing percussion in a number of Omaha's musical productions, performing with the UNO Herd Drumline, and the Nebraska Brass Band. He is the founder of Ignis Percussion, a professional quartet and large community percussion ensemble beginning tours in 2027. Alex also enjoys designing shows and writing music for a number of marching ensembles. Most notably, he was the lead show designer for the 2018-2020 Railmen Indoor Percussion, placing 4th in 2018 and 2nd in 2019 at the WGI World Championships in Dayton, OH. He is currently the Director for Spark Percussion, who made their WGI debut as a finalist in 2026.
Alex formerly worked for Logan-Magnolia Schools in Logan, IA as the 7th-12th grade band teacher from 2014-2024. Under his direction, the band program more than tripled in size and set multiple school records. These include the band's first Division 1 rating in Marching Band and a streak of Division 1 ratings in both Jazz and Concert Bands. In 2020, the high school concert band was selected to perform for the Iowa Bandmasters Association Conference, representing all class 1A schools in Iowa. The Logan-Magnolia Jazz Band, "The 127," placed in the top 8 of 15 at the annual Iowa Jazz Championships each year since 2019. Alex is most proud of successfully campaigning for a 3rd full-time music teacher in the school district, dramatically expanding the access that students have to music instruction.
Alex earned his bachelor's degree in music education from Western Illinois University. During his time there, he was named a winner of the annual School of Music Concerto Competition, where he performed with the university's orchestra. He is also proud to be an alumnus of the Colts Drum and Bugle Corps and Rhythm X Indoor Percussion.
