All In Tune

How is it that when you unpack your marimba, it’s always just perfect—no missing hardware, no wobbliness, no scratches anywhere on the wood? Thank Michael, marimba one’s shop assistant. He personally assembles and checks every instrument before getting it ready for shipment. “Since it’s final assembly, I really want it to be perfect, as if I were the musician,” the young Californian says.

Michael, who plays guitar, first came to Northern California from the Bay Area in 2013 because of his girlfriend. “I love it here because it’s such a forested area, and in my job I work with beautiful wood also.” The favorite part of his job is putting the frame wood on to the aluminum legs. But most of all, “It’s the environment that’s awesome here. Everybody is in tune with each other.”
