Javier Garza
Javi Garza first began his musical career in his hometown Edinburg, TX. Throughout his career, Javi has been a part of many world renowned musical ensembles such as Broken City Indoor Percussion, Blue Knights Drum and Bugle Corps (DBC), Colts DBC, and Genesis DBC. In 2025, Javi graduated with his degree in both Percussion Performance and Music Education from Texas Tech University (TTU). He has performed in many ensembles associated with Texas Tech including TTU Percussion Ensemble I, TTU Symphonic Wind Ensemble, TTU Symphony Orchestra, as well as getting the opportunity to travel to Spain with the nationally acclaimed Texas Tech Steelpan ensemble "Apocalypso Now”. Additionally, Javi has had the opportunity to perform with the Lubbock Symphony Orchestra and the Mid-Texas Symphony Orchestra. In 2024, he was given the opportunity to travel Mexico City and perform as a soloist for the percussion studio members at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) along with the Texas Tech University Symphony Orchestra.
Javi remains an active performer in several competitive arenas. He has been awarded second place in the ENKOR International Winds and Percussion Competition (2024) and third place in the National Collegiate Keyboard Competition held by the Percussive Arts Society (PAS) in Indianapolis, Indiana (2024). Most recently, Javi earned the highest placement in the 2025 PAS Italy International Vibraphone Competition.
Since 2019, Javi has taught front ensemble and percussion lessons in schools in Texas and California, such McAllen Memorial HS, Economedes HS, Lubbock Cooper HS, Frenship HS, West Plains HS, Lockney HS, Ropesville ISD, John W. North HS and many others. Javi has also served as one of the front ensemble instructors for the Blue Knights DBC from 2023-2024. Javi credits most of his success to his past teachers. Javi has had the honor of studying under Brian Sexton, Eduardo Trevino, Randy Sifuentes, Alan Shinn, Dr. Lisa Rogers, Dr. Michael Mixtacki, Tyler Gerson, Josh & Meagan Nelson, Kyle Hammock, John Gaal, Julian Davidson, Phil Idell, Kevin Shah, and Mike Jackson.
Javi is currently obtaining his Master’s Degree in Percussion in Performance at Kansas State University under the direction of Dr. Kurt Gartner
